ThoughtWell Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 7, 2026

Your reflections

ThoughtWell is designed to be a private place for reflection. Your writing is stored locally on your device, and ThoughtWell does not require an account or operate a cloud service that stores or syncs your reflections.

This Privacy Policy explains how ThoughtWell handles information when you use the app.

Reflections you write in ThoughtWell are stored locally in the app’s data store on your device.

ThoughtWell does not:

  • require you to create an account
  • upload your reflections to ThoughtWell servers
  • sync your reflections through a ThoughtWell-operated cloud service
  • use advertising or advertising identifiers
  • use analytics to collect or analyze what you write
  • sell your personal information

ThoughtWell does not currently operate a server that receives your reflection content.

On-device processing

ThoughtWell may analyze information from your reflections locally on your device to provide features such as patterns or observations across your writing.

On supported devices and operating-system versions, some of this processing may use Apple’s on-device Foundation Models technology. When those capabilities are unavailable, ThoughtWell uses local fallback processing.

This processing takes place on your device. ThoughtWell does not send your reflection text to a ThoughtWell server for AI processing.

Local preferences and app settings

ThoughtWell stores certain app preferences locally on your device, such as settings related to the app experience or features you have chosen to enable.

These preferences are used to make the app work as expected and are not sent to ThoughtWell servers.

iCloud and device backups

ThoughtWell does not use CloudKit to sync your reflections between devices.

However, data stored by apps may be included in device backups managed by Apple depending on your device and backup settings. ThoughtWell does not control Apple’s device-backup services.

For information about how Apple handles data in iCloud and device backups, please refer to Apple’s privacy information and your device settings.

Sharing and exporting

ThoughtWell allows you to choose to export or share information using Apple’s system sharing tools.

When you choose to share something, the information is sent to the app, service, or person you select. ThoughtWell does not control how that recipient handles information after you share it.

ThoughtWell does not automatically export or share your reflections.

Deleting your reflections

You can delete reflections from within ThoughtWell.

When a reflection is deleted, ThoughtWell removes it from the app’s local data according to the app’s deletion process. Related locally generated information associated only with that reflection may also be removed.

ThoughtWell does not maintain a separate server-side copy of your reflection.

Data collection

Based on the current version of ThoughtWell, the developer does not collect personal information or reflection content from the app for analytics, advertising, profiling, or other developer-operated services.

ThoughtWell does not include third-party advertising, analytics, telemetry, or crash-reporting SDKs.

Security

ThoughtWell is designed to minimize the amount of information that leaves your device.

No software can guarantee absolute security, and the security of locally stored information also depends on the security of your device, operating system, backups, and any services you choose to use when exporting information.

Using a device passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID where available can help protect information stored on your device.

Children’s privacy

ThoughtWell is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children, and the app does not operate an account or developer-controlled data-collection service.

If you have questions about use of ThoughtWell by a child or young person, contact us using the information below.

Changes to this policy

ThoughtWell may update this Privacy Policy as the app changes.

If a future version introduces services that materially change how information is handled — such as optional cloud sync or other network-based features — this policy will be updated to describe those changes before they apply.

The effective date at the top of this page indicates when this policy was last updated.
