Accessibility at ThoughtWell

A reflection app that some people can’t use wouldn’t be much of a reflection app. Accessibility isn’t a mode in ThoughtWell — it’s one of the requirements the app is built against.

This page describes design commitments under validation. Final accessibility testing is incomplete, and this is not a verified capability or conformance claim.

Built into the app

What ThoughtWell is designed to provide on iPhone and iPad.

VoiceOver

Controls are designed with labels that describe purpose rather than mechanics — “Continue to the next question,” not “Button.” The circle that reflects your emotional state is designed with text equivalents so its meaning does not depend on seeing it.

Larger text

ThoughtWell is designed for Dynamic Type, with text intended to follow your reading preference, layouts intended to reflow rather than truncate, and touch targets intended to stay large as type grows.

Motion

Movement is designed to be slow and purposeful, with reduced-motion behaviour when that preference is enabled. The grounding visuals are designed not to react to anything about you.

Beyond colour

Emotional states are designed not to rely on colour alone. Shape and wording are intended to change alongside colour so important meaning does not depend on telling two colours apart.

Gentle feedback

Haptics are designed to acknowledge meaningful transitions — saving, arriving back home — rather than reward writing or finishing, because reflection isn’t an achievement to unlock.

On this website

The site is designed to follow your system light or dark setting, adapt to phone sizes, show a visible keyboard-focus outline, disable animation when reduced motion is requested, and offer a skip link past navigation on every page. Validation is in progress.

What we’re still doing

Validation with assistive technologies is in progress, and final testing and an independent accessibility audit have not been completed. We do not claim verified accessibility capabilities or conformance with any standard. Where we fall short, we want to know, and we treat barriers as bugs worth fixing.

If anything is hard to see, hear, reach, or use — in the app or on this site — please write. It helps to include your device, your iOS version, the assistive technology you use, and what you expected to happen instead.

Accessibility feedback is welcome and helps guide validation and fixes.
